You Can Opt-out of NorthWestern Energy Smart Meter Installations
Dear Editor,
NorthWestern Energy (NWE) is currently installing Smart Meters (2-way Advanced Metering Devices) in Montana. It is important that consumers understand that they can opt-out of this ‘meter upgrade’ or installation. Their information brochure has not provided fully informed consent so that participants would be able to make competent and informed decisions.
In order to collect your minute-by-minute utility usage, Smart Meters will be radiating more intensely and frequently pulsed microwave radiation than your old meters. This design also creates high levels of dirty electricity on your line. As a result, Smart Meters have been shown to catch on fire and explode more easily. Hundreds of thousands of smart meters have had to be recalled due to defects and fires.
Medical researchers are calling this type of high EMF microwave radiation the ‘New Tobacco’ as these toxins are cumulative and cancer causing, and with Smart Meters, we will not be able to turn them off. Many health professionals and public health groups find these experimental devices unacceptable and have called for a Moratorium until they can be proven to be safe.
On August 13, 2021, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit published it decision in a historic lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), stating that its outdated radiofrequency emissions guidelines do not protect the public from harm, and that they have completely ignored the large body of scientific evidence and extensive research indicating harm and damage from this type of radiation. The utility companies had been relying on the FCC’s negligent and inadequate safety guidelines to claim that Smart Meters were safe.
Since the evidence is irrefutable that this type of excessive radiation is harmful for public health, the Utilities should not be charging an extra ‘opt-out’ fee for those wishing to not be surveilled and irradiated with this type of radiation.
Since the evidence is irrefutable that Smart Meters are risky and harmful, and are being installed without full informed consent, our Public Service Commissioners (MT PSC) should have the ability to protect consumers by placing a Moratorium on these untested and risky devices until they can be proven to be safe. According to MCA 69-4-1004, the PSC would have this authority based on “(d) other concerns related to advanced metering devices and advanced metering gateway devices”, to determine whether an opt-out program for advanced meters should be established.
Please contact the MT PSC 1-800-646-6150 pschelp@mt.gov to let them know that these devices are a violation of our Constitutional Right to Privacy, a violation of our Constitutional Right to a “clean and healthy environment” (Article IX, Section 1). And now, in light of the recent Court of Appeals Ruling, a violation of the Nuremberg Code for experimentation and treatment of humanity without their full informed consent.
